FAQ
Find the Answers to your Questions
1. What is a CHAS card?
The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) card allows eligible Singapore Citizens to receive medical and dental subsidies at participating GP and dental clinics. It helps make healthcare more affordable for lower- and middle-income households.
2. How can I get a CHAS card?
You can apply if you are a Singapore Citizen.
Once approved, your household members will each receive their own CHAS card, usually valid for two years. Subsidies are based on your household income or property Annual Value.
3. How do I apply for a CHAS card online?
You can apply online at www.chas.sg using Singpass. Applicants must provide household details such as NRIC numbers and addresses. Processing typically takes about 15 working days.
4. Who qualifies for a CHAS card?
All Singapore Citizens qualify. The level of subsidy—Blue, Orange, or Green—depends on your household’s monthly income per person or the Annual Value (AV) of your home as assessed by IRAS.
5. How can I check my CHAS card colour?
Your CHAS card colour (Blue, Orange, or Green) is printed directly on the front of your card. It indicates the level of subsidy you’re entitled to. You can also check it via the CHAS online portal using your Singpass login.
6. Is the CHAS card free?
Yes. Applying for and receiving a CHAS card is completely free for all eligible Singapore Citizens. There are no registration or renewal fees.
7. How can I check the expiry date of my CHAS card?
The expiry date is printed on your CHAS card. You’ll also receive a notification about one month before expiry. To maintain continuity of benefits, renew online through the CHAS portal before your card expires.
8. Can I use my MediSave to top up my parents’ MediSave account?
No, you cannot directly top up someone else’s MediSave account. However, you can make cash top-ups to their CPF Retirement Account or pay for their medical bills using your MediSave if they are your approved dependants (parents, spouse, or children).
9. Can I withdraw my MediSave money?
You cannot withdraw MediSave savings in cash. These funds are specifically reserved for approved medical expenses such as hospitalisation, day surgery, insurance premiums, and certain outpatient treatments under MediSave500/700 and Flexi-MediSave.
10. Can I use MediSave in Malaysia?
Yes, but only at approved hospitals under the MediSave-accredited Overseas Hospitalisation Scheme. These include selected hospitals in Johor Bahru, Malacca, and Kuala Lumpur linked to Singapore healthcare providers like HMI and Parkway Holdings.
11. How much MediSave can I use per year?
Annual withdrawal limits depend on the treatment type. For example:
$500–$700 per year for approved chronic disease outpatient treatments.
Up to $200 per month for severely disabled patients under the MediSave Care Scheme.
